    * Stopped the operation of JERS-1(Japanese Earth Resources Satellite) (October 12).

    * Stopped the IMG(Interferometric Monitor for Greenhouse Gases) operation due to the termination of ADEOS (Advanced Earth Observing Satellite) operation (June 30).
    * Entrusted "Study on Sensors of Next Generation" from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry(MITI) (continued until 1999).
    * 1st Japan-Saudi Arabia Joint Symposium "Remote Sensing and its Applications" was held.

    * Completed the development of IMGDIS(Ground Data System for Interferometric Monitor for Greenhouse Gases sensor).
    * Advanced Earth Observing Satellite (ADEOS) which was equipped with Interferometric Monitor for Greenhouse Gases (IMG) sensor was launched (August 17).
    * Started the operation of IMG

    * Changed the organization name to "Earth Remote Sensing Data Analysis Center" from "Earth Resources Satellite Data Analysis Center" (April.1).
    * Moved the head office to the Forefront Tower Building at Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
    * International Symposium "Industrial Application of Satellite Data and International Cooperation" was held.
    * Started development of Advanced Space-borne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) and its Ground Data System (ASTER GDS).

    * Started development of Interferometric Monitor for Greenhouse Gases (IMG) sensor and its Ground Data System (IMGDIS).
1992
 
    * Completed the development of the JERS-1 Data and Information System (ERSDIS).
    * JERS-1 was launched (February 11).
    * Local Symposia were held at Morioka, Hiroshima, Nagoya and Sapporo in Japan.
    * Entrusted "Processing and Analyses of Satellite-Images of Saudi Arabia Observed by JERS-1" from Japan National Oil Corporation(JNOC) (continued until 1998) .

    * International Symposium "JERS-1 and Future Remote Sensing" was held.
    * Opened the Data Center in the Forefront Tower Building at Chuo-ku,Tokyo.
    * International Symposium "JERS-1, A Bridge to the 21st Century" was held.
    * Received subsidy for "Research on Advanced Remote Sensing Technology"from the Japan Motorcycle Racing Organization (continued until 1997).

    * Entrusted "Research and Development of On-board Observation System for Resources Exploration equipped on a Polar Orbit Platform" from Japan Resources Observation System Organization (JAROS : continued until 1991).

    * Japan-US Joint Seminar "Natural Resources in 1990's" was held in Tsukuba (June 27).
    * Received subsidy for "Research on Advanced Remote Sensing Technology" from the Japan Keirin Association (continued until 1990).

1981
    * Established as a legally incorporated foundation according to the Charter for Foundation of "Earth Resources Satellite Data Analysis Center (ERSDAC)" which was given from the Minister of International Trade and Industry(MITI) on September 30. The prime objective of ERSDAC is to promote and accelerate the research and development of remote sensing technology to be applied to exploration of non-renewable natural resources.
    * Opened the Head Office in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
    * Sponsored the International Symposium "Earth's Resources and Space Era."
    * Entrusted "Research and Development of the Remote Sensing Technologies for Petroleum Exploration" from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).
    * Entrusted "Development of Technology for the Analyses of Resources-Satellite Data" from the Metal Mining Agency of Japan (MMAJ).
    * Entrusted "Research on Advanced Remote Sensing Technology" from the Japan Machinery Federation (continued until 1984).
